GKS FAQs: Awards and other Certificates (Optional Requirement)

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog! :)

I'll be talking about the Awards and Other Certificates part of the Global Korea Scholarship Application requirements.

NOTE: That is a very tricky one, when you see the word "optional". :) In my own opinion, optional requirements are those that can either make or break you, it can be the reason why you are selected. Effort counts, my dear applicants. hehe

Whatever the case, PLEASE ATTACH OPTIONAL DOCUMENTS because it will help you more in your application. Let us suppose that you and the other applicants have the same grades, same course (natural science & engineering), same everything, how will they pick you? You should have at least an edge, right? So in this blog, I will share with you some valuable optional requirements you need to attach.

1. VOLUNTEERING CERT. / PARTICIPATION

Volunteering while you are doing your Undergraduate is a great way to show them that you can multi-task, you have a work-life balance, and you have passion and concern for other's well-being (people/environment).

2. AWARDS RECEIVED - RELATED TO YOUR COURSE

Best in Chemistry, Math or any awards put them there. NOT ONLY ATTACH THEM BUT BE SURE TO PUT SOME DESCRIPTION!. For example, I won the Best in Chemistry award among 300 students in my class. Put numerical description. They won't know if it is 300, anyway.

Attaching optional documents makes an impression that you are doing your best in this application and shows how much competitive a person you are.

Hope this helps!

  1. How about attaching certificates which I gained through learning online courses through platforms like coursera, edx?

    1. Hi! As long as it is related to your field, but do not OVERDO it. Too many certs will make you look desperate.

Better add volunteering certs and awards.
